The University of Torino (UniTo) is one of the most ancient and prestigious Italian Universities. Hosting about 75.000 students, 3.838 academic, administrative and technical staff, 2600 post-graduate and PHD students and with 120 buildings in different areas in Torino and in key places in Piedmont, UniTo can be considered as “city-within-a-city”, promoting culture and producing research, innovation, training and employment.

UniTo has a dedicated school, the Interdepartmental University School for Strategic Sciences (SUISS), which has been cooperating with the education and Training Command and School of Applied Military Studies (ETC&SAMS) since 1998, in order to manage the education for Army officers. This school provides 2 Bachelor and 2 Master Program in Strategic Sciences,1 cycle is dedicated to officers and another one is tailored for civilian students (about 360 officers and 250 civilians). Officers and civilians attend lessons and participate to several activities together. 10 % of officers are women while this percentage is 50 among civilians who are interested in working in the field of security and defence. 9 of 27 departments are involved in this program dedicated to this group of students and for this reason courses are multidisciplinary.
